Ukrainian-Austrian pianist Dmytro Choni is regarded as one of the outstanding artists of his generation, acclaimed for his exceptional technical command, expressive musicality, clarity of articulation and refined sense of colour. In recent years he garnered international attention by winning numerous top prizes and awards, including the Cliburn International Piano Competition (2022), the Leeds International Piano Competition (2021) and the Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition (2018).

The 2026/27 season brings major orchestral, recital and chamber music engagements. Choni performs with the Slovak Philharmonic conducted by Dawid Runtz, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic under Victorien Vanoosten, and the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra with Jascha von der Goltz. His solo engagements include a return to the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona and an appearance at the Tengiz Amirejibi International Music Festival in Tbilisi.

Since 2023, Dmytro has enjoyed a close artistic partnership with violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann, resulting in acclaimed performances and recordings. Their 2026/27 season includes duo recitals at Flagey in Brussels, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Verdi in Trieste and Festival d’Arcachon, as well as an extensive tour throughout Spain. Their first recording together, featuring works by Bartók and Szymanowski, was released on BIS Records in 2025, with a new recording forthcoming. Following their performance at the Vienna Konzerthaus, Die Presse praised Choni as “a sensitive poet who places his brilliant technique at the service of expression.”

Dmytro’s discography includes two solo albums on the naïve label: Pilgrimage (2025), featuring works by Debussy, Liszt, Silvestrov and Liebermann, and Heartlands (2026), with music by Brahms, Schumann and Lysenko. Both recordings have received enthusiastic critical acclaim. BBC Music Magazine described Heartlands as “something truly special”, praising Choni’s playing as “impassioned, introspective, sensitive, fiery, always utterly compelling.”

As a concerto soloist, Dmytro Choni has appeared with orchestras throughout Europe, North America and Asia, among them the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, RTVE Symphony Orchestra, Bielefelder Philharmoniker and Vienna Chamber Orchestra. His collaborators have included conductors such as Marin Alsop, Andrew Manze, Oksana Lyniv, Baldur Brönnimann, Juraj Valčuha, Dawid Runtz, Hankyeol Yoon and Pablo González.

His international appearances include leading venues such as Wigmore Hall London, Carnegie Hall New York, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Berlin, Konzerthaus Vienna, Maison de la Radio et de la Musique Paris, Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Palau de la Música Barcelona, Flagey Brussels, Muziekgebouw Amsterdam and Auditorio Nacional de Música Madrid. His festival appearances include Verbier Festival, Lucerne Festival, Kissinger Sommer, Beethovenfest Bonn, MiTo Settembre Musica, Lille Piano Festival, Chopin Duszniki International Piano Festival and Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

Born in Kyiv in 1993, Choni began playing the piano at the age of four. He studied in Kyiv with Nina Naiditch and Yuri Kot before continuing his education at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Milana Chernyavska. He was also mentored by Gabriela Montero and is based in Vienna.
